It is now finalised that Djokovic will finish 2020 as the ATP mens number one player for the 6th time in his career. With the news that Nadal is not playing in Sofia next week it ensures that the Joker cannot be caught.
Currently he has a 92.9% winning rate for the year. He only lost 1 match to a player inside the top Ten, and he only lost a total of 3 matches for the whole year. The year hasn’t been to hard on Djokovic’s wallet either, pocketing over 6 million in prizemoney between his singles and doubles results.
The 33 year old would no doubt having some mixed feelings about 2020, coming so close to winning the French Open, plus his default at the US Open. Admitedly he made a “big mistake” at the US Open, but by his own admission he recognises “I understand that I have outbursts, and this is kind of the personality and the player that I have always been,”
He really is a remarkable athlete and based on his current continued elite level of play and fitness, it would be hard to see him finishing 2021 anywhere apart from number 1 again… for that we will have to wait and see!
