Thanks to all of those of you who started on this Tennis fans journey with me since the starting of the page, Instagram and facebook since November this year. It sure has given me lots of joy talking about what I love and sharing it with other like minded people. My hope for 2021 is to continue it further and get more collaboration on the articles from like minded people and players, plus bring more awareness to the wheelchair Tennis community.
The year started off with normality at the ATP Cup and Australian Open…with full crowds and normal procedures. Correction, the Tennis started off normal, but there were still the devastating Australian bushfires which affected so much wildlife, nature, and people’s livelihoods, as well as the breathing of some of those trying to qualify to the main draws of the Australian Open.
From then onwards the world as we new it was no more. The virus spread throughout the world with devastating impacts, resulting in the Tennis calendar being thrown out the window. None of the following majors were played in their normal time slot, and Wimbledon was completely cancelled.
After a long pause, and many procedures and policies put into place to ensure the health of players and fans, Tennis was back in a modified way ( ie reduced or no fans…no balls boys.. or towel boys).. We felt the joy of Tennis again and the distraction that sport can give us from death, sickness and world issues.
As we move into 2021 tomorrow, and with vaccines being distributed throughout the world, many can now feel that things are on the mend. Having 2020 and all being shaken a bit was not welcome, but it definitely made us all realise what is most important to us, health, family, friends….. and once all those things are taken care of we LOVE our Tennis!
Thanks for being on this journey.. until 2021!
Yours in Tennis, James
