It’s hard to know where to start with this fine Tennis player and exceptional human being. At just 29 years old he has achieved soo much on and off the Tennis court. Wikipedia describes him as “an Australian wheelchair basketballer, wheelchair tennis player, radio host and motivational speaker”. He is fresh off just winning yet another Grand Slam Tennis title ( French Open quad wheelchair singles title) and it seems the sky is the limit for him.
His Tennis career really hit the big time back in 2009 when he won the Sydney International.. He then focused on wheelchair basketball where he has plenty of success before returning to Tennis again in 2014. In 2015 he won 8 tournaments including the US and Australian Open. In 2016 he was named the Paraolympian of the year after winning Gold in both the quad singles and doubles events. In 2017 and 2018 he won the Australian Open again.. as well as many other events. In 2019 he had an absolutely stellar year winning the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon Titles. The goal for 2020 was to achieve a Golden Grand Slam… ( winning all 4 Grand Slams plus Gold at the Tokyo Olympics)… as we know the year was thrown into disarray with the pandemic which meant this was not possible.
Off the court Alcott sure is a busy man. He is currently studying commerce at the University of Melbourne, also doing a lot of motivational speaking to help the progression of peoples thinking in regard to people with disabilities. He also commentates on tv as well as on radio stations from time to time. Alcott also has his own foundation which has a mission to “To help enrich the lives of young people with disabilities by eliminating the barriers of entry to get involved in sport and study through mentoring, grants and scholarships”. If you want to learn more about the organisation, please see details here –
After Alcott’s win in the Australian Open this year he revealed he was going to donate $40,000 to people with disabilities affected by the fires.
2021 and just around the corner and we will no doubt be seeing Alcott competing, commentating, joking, inspiring, and trying to break down barriers. This guy has soo much energy and passion and it’s definitely leaving it’s mark. Maybe 2021 will be the Gold Grand Slam year for Alcott…
