Barty has always appeared very down to earth, balanced and calm. Having this awareness, at the end of 2014 she decided to take an infinite break from Tennis. During her break she ended up playing cricket at a professional level for Brisbane. Returning to Tennis in 2016, she went up and up and finished 2017 as no 17 in the world. 2018-2020 has seen her rise and rise and her all court game dazzle fans around the world.
Due to the global pandemic Barty has not played competitive Tennis since her semi final loss to Petra Kvitova in the Australian Open in 2020. There is a lot of pressure and hope from Barty fans down under and around the world to lift the winners trophy at the Australian Open in February 2021. It’s hard to know exactly how Barty will be playing since she has not played a match for a year. She would no doubt have had plenty of time to work on her technique, mind game, and her weaknesses during the last 12 months…. but the one question mark which she will answer on the court… is if she is able to come back to being “match fit” and deliver the level of Tennis quickly that got her to number 1 in the world. She has had the advantage of practicing in the Aussie summer and conditioning over the last few months, plus she has not had to quarantine like the International players are having to doing.
Whatever happens, you can be sure that she will give it her all as she always does, and that the Aussie Tennis public will be right behind her every shot.
