Here we are again in a new year, which brings new hope and a fresh start for many players looking to break through further than they have gone before, weather it be to win their first ITF of Futures tournament, to break into the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time, or break through and win their first Grand Slam title.

This year is going to be interesting… just as last year was. The burning questions

  • Will Roger Federer make a full comeback from his knee surgery’s and play the elite level of Tennis we know of him? If he does come back with his form of old days, will it be enough along with his ageing body to carry him through two weeks of a Grand Slam and hold the trophy?
  • We know that Serena is a fighter and will never give up… but it her last Grand Slam title Victory was back when she was pregnant with Olympia and she hasn’t been able to break through any of the finals she has reached since. Does she have enough in the tank at nearly 40 to get to another final, and will her nerves prevail to help her lift another trophy?
  • The GOAT Race… Will this be the year the Rafa steps up and beats Novak at one of the Slams outside of the French, given the confidence of his French Open Triumph? or Will Novak continue his superb form and go on another tear and catch Roger and Rafa this year..? or will Roger come back and win a Slam?
  • Will Ash Barty come back from her very limited 2020 Tennis season and be able to maintain the number 1 ranking and snag another Slam or more?
  • Will there finally be one woman to win at least 2 SLAMS in the same season and take over as the new Queen of Tennis? Osaka could do it and she did well in 2020… but has she got the drive and consistency to maintain it?
  • Will Dylan Alcott continue his ridiculous run of Australian Open titles and now win an 8th?
  • Every year there is discussion of the changing of the guard and Thiem, Zverev, Tsitsipas and Dimitrov taking over the top of the mens game… Will 2021 be the year that one or a few of them come into their own and seriously challenge the big three at their own game?

No doubt, there are many burning questions this year and not a lot of certainty. What is certain is that we will all be highly entertained and look how it all unravels in 2021!

Let’s get out the popcorn and get ready for the Tennis!
