Nick Kyrgios vs Dominic Thiem happening Friday

On Friday the 12th of February world number 3 Dominic Thiem will take on world number 47 Nick Kyrgios. Don’t let the ranking of Kyrgios take away from the fact that this could be a fantastic game though. He is playing at his favourite tournament, in front of his favourite crowds and has plenty of fire and fuel in the tank to try and cause an upset.

Thiem is the current US Open Champion and has proved himself on the big stage now… so this is not going to be an easy match at all for Kyrgios and will require his serves to be on song, plus much more. It will be interesting to see how Kyrgios serves against Thiem who normally combats big servers by standing really far back in the court. Most players struggle when they do that as they struggle to get power, but Thiem hits such a heavy ball and with such power, that it doesn’t pose him many issues.

Kyrgios has only played Thiem and it was back in 2015 on clay… Thiem won the match but it is not Kyrgios’ favourite surface and he ended up retiring during the match. It is hard to read too much into it. Let’s hope Kyrgios brings his A game and can put up a good fight and we see a blockbuster Friday night clash at the Aussie Open!
