As we enter the last 3 months of 2021 here is a recap of the current rankings in the ATP and WTA.

In the ATP rankings Djokovic still sits atop the rankings with Medvedev just 1000 points behind him. Following the 2 there is Stefanos Tsipsipas, Zverev and a fast improving Rublev now in number 5. Then there is Nadal, Italian Berrettini, Thiem, Federer and Ruud.

In the WTA rankings Australia’s Ashleigh Barty has managed to hold down the number 1 ranking for the whole year and is still 2000 points ahead of Sabalenka in number 2. Number 3 is Pliskova, then Polish Swiatek, Krejcikova rounds out the top 5. Muguruza, Svitolena, Kenin, Sakkari and Bencic round out the top 10.

To see Djokovic and Barty at this stage of the year at number 1, as they started out at the beginning of the year is no massive suprise. We shouldn’t undervalue the work and commitment week in, week out that they endure to maintain their level, defend points and continue with the fight and drive to win each match and tournament.

We still have 3 months of the year to play out but it is hard to see too much change happening in the top 10… but what will happen in 2022 is what I am most interested in. Specifically if Barty can contain her level and keep the hard hitting challengers at bay and win a few more Grand Slams. The other point of interest to me is if Djokovic can continue his dominance and have another fabulous year. It is hard to imagine anything different right now for Djokovic as it seems the only way he loses is if someone can play the best match/ or close to of their life to beat him. We will just have to wait to see how the story goes!
