What a difference a year makes. Last year there were no fans allowed at the US Open, and this year it was back to life. It still felt a bit different watching some fans with masks on, plus the players with masks as well. Overall it was brilliant to have the energy of the notorious New Yorkers back enjoying the contest and the players feeding off the electricity.

At the beginning of the tournament who would have thought that Joker would fail at the last step for his maiden Calendar Grand Slam, and that there would be 2 teenagers fighting out the Final on the woman’s side.

Incredible to see Medvedev dethrone Djokovic from his run right at the end of the year. He would have been the first man since Rod Laver to achieve the Calendar Grand Slam.. Perhaps next year will be his year.. One thing is for certain is that he has the ability, but to maintain that immense level for 4 Grand Slams in a row, on four different surfaces is like a marathon and the mental and physical strength required is insane.

Incredible woman’s final

The rise of Leylah Fernandes and Emma Ruducanu through US Open 2021 was like a fairytale. The first all teen final since Serena Williams and Martini Hingis did it many years ago. Ruducanu came through the qualifiers incredibly to win the title. Emma was ranked 150 in the world and came through to win the title. Now, as us Tennis fans will hold out to see what will happen with the two of them. That is what is exciting about sport.. anyone can achieve and that takes incredible focus and strength.. but to then maintain that level after reaching the pinnacle of winning a Grand Slam, is the next task. There has to be fight, skill, and relentless determination. Looking forward to what is on the horizon for these 2.
